The COVID-19 situation has changed the lives of everyone around the country, and it’s forcing most people to be stuck inside at home. If you’re ready to get out spend some time outdoors, Gaithersburg has plenty of parks that are still open right now!
Top Outdoor Destinations in Gaithersburg, Maryland
It’s important to spend some time outside during these crazy times, but remember to stay at least six feet away from any other people around you. If you have kids, be sure to explain how to maintain social distance as well.
There are plenty of nice parks and trails throughout Gaithersburg, but there has been a lot of confusion about current restrictions. According to recent orders from the governor, these three areas are still open!
1. Washington Square Neighborhood Park
Washington Square Neighborhood Park is a great place for a picnic or even just a stroll around the greenery. You can have an all-day trip out in the sun and even enjoy relaxing under the rentable shelter. While the indoor areas are closed, the tennis courts are still open—feel free to invite your friends out while maintaining social distance and get some exercise in!
The park’s hours are from sunrise to sunset, so you’ll have plenty of time to relax and enjoy the sunshine. This is a great way to start easing back into outdoor activities after weeks of staying at home, especially with summer coming up.
2. Travis Park
If you’re looking for someplace a little calmer, then check out Travis Park! There aren’t as many things to do (most of their facilities are closed), but that also means fewer people will be there. You can spend plenty of time relaxing under park benches and a gazebo—there’s no better place to read a book or catch up with family.
Travis Park is open from 8am to 5pm, so this is an ideal spot for an outdoor lunch or some midday excursions. If you’re working from home and have a mobile hotspot, you can even bring your laptop out for more interesting scenery.
3. Old Town Gaithersburg
If you want to check out something a little different than your everyday park, try visiting Old Town Gaithersburg! This small, historic town is open for those looking to get some exercise and sunshine. Although most of the stores and shops are closed, you’ll have a fun time seeing some historic architecture, and even old trains!
Since it isn’t a true park, you can wander around Old Town Gaithersburg at any time of the day. However, if you’d like to really see everything, it’s best to start your trek when the sun is out…it’s not only safer, but it also gives you some vitamin C.
